Jamie Clapham, Toorak

67 Albany Road, Toorak (2016)

Designer

Note: This garden was opened in 2016

This grand garden sits in harmony with the style of the existing French chateau home. It was completed in collaboration with the owners and Clapham Landscape Architecture in a number of stages over several years.

The main stage came with the purchase of part of the neighbouring property, which allowed the existing garden to be extended. This created one of the main but unseen clever elements of this garden, which is that a large area is actually a roof garden sitting over a basement and garage. The pool was also extended to match the scale of the new space.

The garden has been designed as a series of rooms with a recurring theme maintaining coherence, although a different feel is achieved in each one. From the grand but graceful entry garden, through the tranquil sunken garden with pebble mosaic inlay, out to the resort like pool garden and finishing on the rear lawn with surrounding arbours and perennial border creating impressive seasonal change.

Selections of outdoor sculptures from the owner’s extensive art collection are located strategically throughout the garden amidst combinations of considered plantings.

Jamie Clapham will be in the garden throughout the weekend and he would love to discuss any design or planting features with you. This is the first time this garden has been open to the public, hope to see you there!
