Trained in horticulture at Dublin’s Botanical Gardens and later completed further studies with the Royal Horticultural Society and Melbourne’s Burnley University studying native plants. Kathleen worked for Landscape Architects Mitchells & Associates in Dublin, working on a number of large scale projects. Her passion for Garden Design lead to working with international garden designer Diarmuid Gavin, assisting in his exhibit at the Chelsea Flower Show in 2004, winning Silver Gilt. In 2005 Kathleen set up her own landscape design business in Australia. She leads and mentors a team of creative landscape designers and was recently awarded The Design Files + Laminex 2020 Landscape Design Award for Native Retreat-Studio Garden.
Kathleen Murphy Landscape Designs work ranges from inner city courtyard and suburban gardens to large private properties. We design spaces with a strong focus on linking the architecture of the house and buildings to the surrounding landscape.
Our design approach is one of collaboration, which enables us to fully understand how you would like to engage with the space to maximise lifestyle opportunities and a sense of well-being.
As Kathleen Murphy Landscape Design is based in the Macedon Ranges, we understand the unique growing conditions of severe frosts and high summer temperatures and select plants that are suitable. The support we offer to clients continues well after the gardens installation. We love to revisit gardens and follow them as they grow and mature, providing advice and support to the clients along the way.
