This jewel in the crown situated in stunning Newtown this 1902 grand old lady titled “Manilla”. This Federation Queen Anne style home has only been in 4 families over the 120 year period. It became the Geelong Grammar Headmaster’s quarters and boarding house in the mid 1950’s.

A 100 year old Oak tree frames the front yard with a large Liquid Amber, creating both dappled sunshine and testing growing conditions.

The brief was to create a relaxed free flowing garden with a sense of colour all year round. Creating a balance of structure and chaos with a fresh touch. 95% of the front garden has been removed for the new makeover that was designed to complement this beautiful grand old Dame.

Bluestone pathways lead one around the house to a second hidden gem, a Japanese inspired Wellness garden featuring Japanese Tea house, timber pergola, ancient timber doors, fish pond and a meditation decked area, also designed for entertaining. A strong Japanese planting palette was incorporated throughout this secluded garden, which transforms from complete shade to filtered sunshine throughout the day.

Two more secret gardens reveal themselves as this garden continues to expand. A true work in progress.
